Teriya Monick Richmond was born and raised in Chicago, Ill. After graduating from Whitney Young Magnet High School, she received a full academic scholarship to Mount Saint College in Clinton, Iowa.
Graduating summa cum laude, Dr. Richmond continued her education at the University of Illinois College of Medicine and School of Public Health where she received her Doctorate of Medicine and Masters of Public Health. She also completed an internship at the Chicago Department of Public HIV/AIDS as a part of her graduate school education.
Dr. Richmond is committed to bringing quality, evidence-based medical care to the minority community, and has a passion for women’s health issues. As a result, in 2007 she pursued her Family and Community Medicine training at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. There, she successfully completed the underserved medicine tract. While in residency at Baylor, Dr. Richmond was elected by a group of her peers and appointed by the residency director to serve as Chief Resident.
Previously, Dr. Richmond provided patient care to the uninsured/underinsured patients at Acres Home Health Center, MLK Health Center, Ben Taub Hospital, and LBJ Hospital. She prides herself in providing excellent evidence-based medicine, offering services like chronic medical disease management, in-office gynecology procedures, and contraception management care in a community setting. In her practice, she encourages healthy eating, a healthy lifestyle, exercise, and psychological well-being to treat chronic illness. In keeping with her passion for women’s health issues, Dr. Richmond was the first physician in the Harris Health System to facilitate Centering Pregnancy, an innovative way to deliver traditional prenatal care in a group setting. Dr. Richmond also served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas-Houston in the Family Medicine department. Most recently, Dr. Richmond became the CEO of Teriya M. Richmond, MD, MPH, PLLC, and opened up her very own practice to provide women’s health services in historic Houston’s 3rd ward community in February 2017. After 3 years of private practice, Dr. Richmond partnered with Essential Body Bar to offer multidisciplinary medical and spa services into one upscale space. She has also been appointed the Chief Medical Officer of AIDS Foundation Houston after 1 year of serving on the Board of Directors.
